"I quit my job and never looked back"

Sharon Thompson, 47, was 19 when she joined Oriflame, now she's a Regional Manager working from her home near Doncaster, South Yorkshire. She has two children.

When my boyfriend asked me to marry him, I needed extra money to put into our 'Wedding account'. I was working full-time as a secretary and not looking to replace my 'real job', I just needed to top up my £100-a-month salary.

Around the same time my boss invited me to an Oriflame party. I was interested in how it all worked and started chatting to the Consultant, who suggested I have a go.

My first party was a big success. I earned lots and was amazed how easy it was to sell the cosmetics, mainly because they were such good quality. Three years later, a few months before my wedding, I gave up my secretarial job and focused on the parties.

Holding Oriflame parties is easy. You hand out brochures to friends and family, and start getting orders. Or you can buy a starter kit with samples and literature for £15 and invite friends round for coffee. You can even sell door-to-door.

This kind of work suits me: I like being my own boss, I like structuring my own hours and I like having the money!

I joined Oriflame 30 years ago so that I could buy a new pair of curtains! I am now one of the most successful leaders in the UK and Ireland's history, having been promoted to the position of Regional Director in July 2009.

It is exciting being in control of what you can earn, and not having to wait for someone to leave to be promoted. There is always someone new in the team to nurture, develop and help to succeed.
