The apple is the fruit of the apple tree, belonging to the rose family, grown in the temperate areas of the world. The origin of the apple is unknown, but it has been cultivated since prehistoric times and there are now thousands of varieties with different colours, shapes and sizes.

Properties

The apple contains many healthy constituents such as vitamins (vitamin C for instance, a well-known anti-oxidant protecting against free radicals), minerals and trace elements.
